"Bill, you can't possibly make it there," Mike told him. He bit his lip and closed his eyes as tears feel down. He opened them again to reach for William's hand. Even though his torso was bare, he wasn't cold.

William let out another choked sob. "I-I-I have to," he gasped, balancing himself against the wall as he stood upright, holding the blood-soaked material over the open wound.

"Where the fuck is your son when we need him?" Mike muttered under his breath, his vision blurred. He helped William stand straight and hold the shirt against him. "Don't walk too fast. It won't be any use if you hurt yourself more."

William nodded, still crying as hard as earlier. His legs trembling, he headed in one direction, walking very slowly on the path to the doctor's office. And for that, they had to enter through the main road.

Mike understood where William wanted to go. "We can't possibly...Bill, we shouldn't go that way." He didn't have the heart to stop him.

William stopped walking, continuing to sob as he did so. He turned to face Mike as best he could. "It's the only place we can go," he whispered, the blood visible around his eyes.

Mike sighed and sobbed at the same time. "It's okay. Keep moving." He hoped no one would slow them down.

William turned back around, gripping the cloth to his stomach. He tried to walk as fast as he possibly could, trying not to fall as he stumbled.

Mike tried to hold him as close as possible without keeping him from walking. They're not going to magically come back to life if you walk faster. He made sure the sidewalk was clear ahead. "We're getting closer."

Tears still in his eyes, William quickened his pace again, trying desperately to get to the doctor. Time was a factor if there was a possibility of saving their children. His mind trapped in thought, he didn't see the curb ahead, and stepped off of it, losing balance and falling to the ground. He fell quickly, his head hitting the pavement with a cracking sound. His eyes widened again as he struggled to stand up.

Mike muttered several swear words one after the other, lowered himself to help William. "What did I tell you? Hold on to me." He put his arms around William, dropping the shirt in the process. He didn't care and kept moving.

William only cried harder, struggling quickly to his feet, walking just as soon as he stood up. He had noticed all of the horrified looks they were greeted with, but he didn't care; he just wanted to get to somewhere where they could get help. His head throbbing, his vision became blurred.

Mike and William managed to reach the doctor's office after what seemed like an eternity. He couldn't figure out whether to push or pull the glass door, so he violently knocked on it until someone came to open.

The nurse looked horrified as she quickly slammed the door open, ushering the two men inside. She yelled the doctor's name a few times before the man came running into the room. His eyes widened. "What happened?!" he asked, leading the two into a room.

"Attacked, stabbed, I don't fucking know," Mike managed to say. "It's not William's fault. I should have been there." The last thing he wanted was for the doctor to tell William he had lost a child because he hadn't been careful.

Two other nurses came running towards them, carefully taking William from Mike. The pregnant man soon lost consciousness, falling limp in their arms. They began carrying him back to the room. The doctor reached for Mike's arm, leading the guitarist along.

Mike followed without a word, wiping his tears with blood-covered hands.

The nurses carefully placed William on a bed, swinging his blood-stained legs over the side before pulling up the rails. The quickly scurried to gather equipment and monitoring devices, stabbing needles and other things into William to make sure he was alive.

Mike shuddered at the sight, only crying more as silently as he could. "I want to know about his condition, and I want to know about the babies. Right. Now."

The nurses rushed to turn all of the equipment on. After they had finished their job, the doctor moved over to William, looking up at the monitors. He made sure that the needle in William's wrist was connected properly. He remained silent, turning on the ultrasound machine.

"I asked," Mike repeated, "how they were." The stress was making him lose his temper. "Someone fucking answer me!"

"We don't know yet, sir," the doctor answered as best as he could, staring up at the monitor. "He's still alive. I'm looking for the babies right now," he said, watching as a nurse finished cleaning off William's stomach, covering it up with a towel for the time being. The doctor applied a gel to the singer's stomach, quickly putting the device to it. He watched as the inside of William's stomach appeared on the monitor.

Mike sighed in relief, letting out a sob he had been holding back. He didn't dare to look at the monitor, only staring at William's face.

William's face was still covered with blood. He had on an oxygen mask, making sure that he was still able to breathe properly. The doctor slowly moved the device around, looking at every small detail. "I still see three hearts beating," he said, turning to face Mike and pointing at the screen. He pointed to the two babies and the egg. "He's very, very lucky, though. What ever he was stabbed with hit the egg both times, only leaving small cracks. Having the egg there protected the other two."

Mike dropped to his knees, crying for good. "Thank you, thank you so much..." The only thing worse than losing a child would have been to tell William.
