Mike saw but didn't attempt to remove William's hand. He bended over the barrier and kissed the boy's head. "Careful."

William winced again as Mike accidently tugged on the cord with the needle inside of his wrist while bending over. He closed his eyes for a moment.

Mike quickly moved away when he noticed, suddenly looking very sad. "Can't be too far but can't be too near." This marriage's going to be tough.

William attempted a small smile for Mike, reaching out his frail arm to his fiance's hand. He looked determined, as if there was something he was attempting to do soon.

Mike placed his palm against William's, but didn't take his hand. He gave a faint smile back.

Removing his hand from his stomach, William used it to carefully grasp his fingers around the needle that was pressing inside of his wrist. Slowly, he began to pull out the needle, wincing and groaning quietly from behind the oxygen mask.

"Bill, don't do that!" Mike warned him, eeys wide. He didn't move from fear of hurting him. "You're not supposed to!"

William didn't listen; he finished pulling out the needle before moving it to the side and setting it down. He suddenly became light-headed, his eyes crossing for a few moments.

"William," Mike whispered, not wanting to alert a nurse. "The needle was there for a reason." He frowned.

William's eyes widened at the loss of the drugs, trying to keep from yelling at the pain he was still able to feel. His hands clenched the sheets on the hospital bed.

Mike kept frowning, wondering if the pain was really that bad. He took William's hand to feel it. "Masochistic bastard," he muttered, almost tempted to let go. It was worse than he had expected.

William pulled his hand away from Mike's, biting his lip. You don't have to put up with me... He closed his eyes and arched his neck slightly, his hands still clenching the sheets.

Mike grasped William's bruised wrist, clenching his teeth at the pain. "Be kind and put the needle back in."

William's eyes widened at how Mike was dealing with his wrist. He let out a small yelp, pulling his hand back to his side and giving Mike a nearly fearful look.

Mike half-climbed over the barrier an into the bed, his knee over William's leg. He struggled to grab the needle, holding the boy still with his free hand, again pressed on his wrist.

William groaned, still trying to move away from Mike. His eyes wide, he struggled and managed to pull his wrist away again. "Stop!" he mouthed, wondering why Mike was being so forceful.

"Stop. Moving," Mike muttered, forcing William's arm back down and slamming it against the mattress. He dove the needle in his skin, not deeper than it had been.

William jumped at the force, wincing in pain. He automatically looked away from Mike, his eyes closed tight, as if he feared being hit.

Mike held the needle still for a few seconds. He moved away and back to his chair once he was certain the drug had been effective. He slowly calmed down.

William held still, the sick feeling of the drugs entering his arm made him want to vomit. He kept his eyes shut, afraid to look at Mike.

Mike watched William carefully, his glare turning into a sad, guilty look. "Are you okay...?"

William shook his head, keeping his eyes closed. He clenched his hand, the feeling of the medicine moving further up his arm.

"It's worse without the drug and you know it," Mike said, his voice shaking slightly.

William kept silent, his eyes shut tightly. The feeling of the needles was too surreal. And somehow, it gave him the strange sensation that this had happened before. He just couldn't remember all of the details.

Mike reached for William's hand but gave up, afraid he'd scare the boy more than he already had.
