"It's really an egg? Do you know if the color is always the same?" Not that I'd plan to match my toenails to it but... Butcher rubbed his stomach thoughtfully. I can't imagine an egg being inside me.

"The two times I've seen it, it's a translucent white colour." Mikey studied Butcher intently for a minute. "I'll show you."

Mikey moved away to the dresser he'd opened the first night of Butcher's arrival. He kept his back to the other man. "How much did you pick up the last time Carden was here?" He asked. "About Nick, in particular."

"Uh.." Butcher thought back. Mike and William's last visit hadn't been a particularly fun one for him.

Butcher focused his memory on only what was said about Nick and came up with an answer. "You still have the egg." Maybe we can...

Mikey nodded, pulling it out of the drawer. "I never understood why I decided to keep it." He murmured. "But I did." He moved back to sit next to Butcher.

Butcher decided to voice his thoughts. "If everything is in one piece in there do you think we can heal the baby inside?"

"I... I think so. I'm not sure. Maybe we could combine our powers?" Mikey shrugged. "You'd be ok with raising another man's child?"

"I didn't think about it that way." Butcher knit his brows together in thought. If I was pregnant than that baby wouldn't really be mine. In a way... "I don't mind at all."

"Are you sure?" Mikey placed his hands on Butcher's shoulders; an unusual move for the reserved avian. "I won't mind if you don't want to."

"I'm sure. The baby should have a chance to live," Butcher looked into Mikey's eyes and smiled slightly. Don't talk me out of it.

Butcher scrambled up off the floor and sat facing the egg. "Well uh I guess I have to be touching it to do my part," he put his hands on the shell.

Narrowing his eyes slightly, Mikey hovered his hands tentatively palm down, gently touching the egg.

Butcher felt his hands tingle as he used his healing ability, unsure whether it would work or not.

Mikey let his eyes close fully, making himself concentrate. His head lolled back slightly.

Butcher watched Mikey with a little concern and yawned. I wonder if I'll have to feed again soon.

Mikey flinched slightly, memories of Nick and Angel taking hold of him. They seemed so real.

How will we know if it works? How long do these eggs take to hatch? Butcher felt like the moment called for silence and concentration she he didn't voice his thoughts.

Unable to bear it any longer, Mikey wrenched his hands away, breathing heavily.

Butcher yawned again, looking at the ceiling. He stiffened. "Hey Mikey... I think something's different. It's warmer or something." Maybe it's just my hands.

Mikey gently pushed Butcher's hands off it. As they watched it, it began to glow.
