Butcher smiled and shifted to wrap both his arms around the other avian and hold him close.

Mikey felt himself drifting off sleepily and blinked hard to stop it. He focused his eyes on Butcher's arms around him.

Butcher moved an index finger to stroke Mikey's skin gently, mostly to prove to himself that he wasn't dreaming.

Mikey shivered at the touch. It left a trail of goosebumps in its wake.

Butcher smiled, eyes still closed, and wondered if Mikey could hear his heart beating. It felt like beating harder than ever although the rate wasn't speeding up. He felt Mikey shiver and a small one passed through him.

Mikey stared at Butcher's hands again. The awkwardness in the room was stifling.

"I wonder how William's doing since he lost his babies..." Butcher decided since it was quiet he'd try to make conversation. "If that guy had gotten me pregnant what would we do?" He winced when he realized that it wasn't the best of topics. I couldn't have that bastard's kid.

Mikey turned his head to look at him. "Well... we'd... raise it, I guess." He shrugged. "You can't get rid of Avian children. At least... I hope not." He whispered.
