Mike smiled when he saw William. Just to see this every day, the deal might have been worth it. "Hey," he simply said, putting his bags down. "Were you talking to someone?"

Brad stood, "Hello? It's me."

William nodded. "Brad came over. He's been here for a little while. What took you so long?" William asked as he saw some hidden emotion in Mike's eyes. He couldn't tell what it was, but it signalled that something was wrong. He'd been gone for a good hour and a half.

"Saw Ryland on the way home," he lied, trying to make it seem like it was an accident. I don't like the way you read my mind. "But it's alright now. He actually agreed to leave you and the baby alone." He kissed William's cheek.

Brad sat back down. He'd seen the kiss. He had more to think about now.

William's facial expression changed to one of dead seriousness. "What did you have to give him to make him say that? He wouldn't have just promised you that. What did you give him?"

Mike sighed. Can't you be happy with what you've got? "I promised his safety and the clan's."

Brad crumbled up the wrapper to his snack and stuffed it back in his backpack.

William sighed and put a hand to his forehead. "He's going to turn around and use this against you. What are you going to do then?" William was worried again. Why did you risk all of this for us? You didn't have to. I can take care of myself and my child...

"I wouldn't have been able to protect you otherwise. And..." He took William in his arms. "You said there was some kind of connection between you and Ryland, and you said you'd always have it. I asked him not to use it again. Now there's nothing that holds you to him anymore."

Brad listened in. If this Ryland has a connection with William, couldn't William use it against him? He was still thinking.

"But Mike, I know better than anyone that he doesn't keep his promises. He's going to use all of this against us." William allowed himself to be taken into Mike's arms, his small bump touching the guitarist's flat stomach.

"If he breaks his promise, then I won't keep mine either. But for the time being, he has agreed to leave you alone. That's enough for me right now." He kissed the boy. "Knowing you'll be alright, even for a little while. It's worth it."

Brad took to tapping a simple beat on his thighs. He could use his drums about now.

William moved closer to Mike and sighed as he layed his head on the guitarist's shoulder for a moment, one of his hands on the opposite shoulder, rubbing against the sleeve of Mike's shirt. He closed his eyes for a second and then looked back up at the other man. "I love you," he said quietly while standing in the guitarist's arms.

"I love you too." Mike had never meant something that much. "We'll be alright." He took William's hand and brought him to the living room, where Brad had obviously been waiting. "Uhm. Hi."

"Hi," Brad didn't say anything. He had some questions, but they could wait.

William smiled and glanced at both Mike and Brad, waiting for someone to say something. Awkward silences made him a little nervous.

"So," Mike said, sitting on the couch. Awkward. "What's up?"

"Nothing?" Brad looked at Mike carefully. He didn't want to say the wrong thing and have them both clamp up on him.

William tried not to let a nervous laugh out. He kept silent and sat down on the couch next to Mike. He had to sit on the very edge, but didn't mind. At that moment, anything was fine with him.

"And you came here because...?" Mike thought it was fortunate that he had showed up when William was alone, but the man probably had something to say or do.

"I wanted to make sure you got home okay," He answered. He'd also had one of those weird feelings that he should come. He'd been having more of them in the past couple weeks than he'd had in years.

"Well, thank you. I... I mean we really appreciate it," William smiled as he spoke. He liked combining himself and Mike with one word.

"We do," Mike confirmed. "I bet this whole thing is confusing you though, isn't it?"
