Why can't Avians be pregnant the normal way?

Cyzarine sighed as she landed on the front few steps of Mandible House. Over the journey the idea of her being pregnant had settled in a little, although she now had no idea what she was going to do about it.
Another thought had hit her as well: Avian pregnancies only lasted for two months, which didn't give her a lot of time to prepare, or to hide from Garland.

Demyx ran a hand through his hair, feeling like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.
"So, what makes Avian pregnancies different from human ones?" He asked, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

Cyzarine swallowed carefully. "Well...it only lasts for two months. After a month the baby will be cut from inside me - it's in an egg which needs to be incubated. Th-Then we wait until it hatches." she replied shakily, walking towards the house. She shook her head sadly. "I still can't believe it. It's just..." she trailed off, shaking her head again.

Demyx sighed. "This isn't going to be easy, is it?"
He was afriad he already knew the answer to that question...

Cyzarine glanced to him and sighed, unable to give the answer. "I'm really sorry, Demyx. If you want to go, I'll understand. I mean..." she looked down at her stomach sadly. "It's not even yours, or so Garland says."

Demyx took her hand. "I'm not going anywhere. Mine or Garlands, I'll stay by you." He kissed her on the nose. "Through thick and thin."

Cyzarine smiled at last, moving forwards to hug him gently, just wanting to be within his comforting embrace again. "Thank you." she whispered.

Demyx rocked her gently. "I love you." Was all he said, hugging her a little tighter.

"I love you too." Cyzarine replied automatically, staring ahead blankly. She moved back and smiled a watery smile at him. "I want you to be the baby's father - Garland won't, I'm not giving him the option." she said firmly.

Demyx smiled a little. "I suppose its not who the actual birth dad is, it's who raises the child that's what makes them the dad..." He trailed off.

Cyzarine nodded, smiling once more. "I want to make this work with you." she murmured, entwining her fingers with his. She shrugged her shoulders happily. "I love you."

Demyx nodded, still a little uncertain. Yes he loved Cyzarine, loved her more than anything but...He wasn't sure if he could bear looking into the baby's eyes and seeing Garland...

Cyzarine bit her lip. "Demyx? Is everything okay?" she asked quietly, lowering her eyes sadly.

Demyx didn't speak, he couldn't speak. He didn't trust himself. Instead he turned and walked into the house, shaking his head sadly.

It took Cyzarine a couple of seconds before she was able to turn and follow Demyx. "This isn't easy for me either." she murmured, wondering faintly if he'd heard her. "I have to carry this baby and know it's a prt fo the man I hate instead of the man I love."

Demyx stopped. She was right, he was being self centered. Slowly he turned to face her. "Sorry Cyzie, you're right." He hugged her gently.

Cyzarine hugged him back, finally letting the tears out. "It's okay. But...I need you." she told him quietly. "I need you to help me through this."

"I'll be here. Promise." He hugged her tighter,kissing her neck gently.

Cyzarine smiled and placed a kiss on his jaw, just under his ear. "I can't tell you how glad I am to hear that." she murmured.

Demyx tugged her a little closer. "Did you say you wanted to rest?" He offered, kissing her cheek.

Cyzarine nodded, smiling at him gently. "Please."

Demyx smiled and scooped her up, carrying her bridal style up the stairs and down the corridors till they reached their room. He laid her on her bed and smiled at her. "Better now?"

Cyzarine giggled up at him, flushing modestly. "Much." she agreed. She looked down at her stomach and blinked in surprise. "Whoa..."

Demyx looked two and blinked. "Well thats...very interesting." He was too surprised to find words.

Cyzarine shifted so she could sit up to inspect the bumb better. She glanced at Demyx, smiling shyly. "I can see the abby, Demyx." she told him quietly, looking back at the bump again. It was surprisingly big for so early on, and now that she knew about it, Cyzarine wondered how she'd failed to notice it before.
