Butcher stiffened when he saw Mike aim at him. He crouched on the shingles, preparing himself to jump up and fly away. "Andy. It's Andy."

Mike lowered his gun, recognizing the man's voice. "Butcher? You're...?" Oh, please. Not another.

William recognized that voice as soon as the man spoke. "Oh god..." he whispered. Is that really Butcher? How the hell did this happen?

Butcher leapt off of the top of the house and soared down to land near the two of them but not too close. "Do you know what I am? I've been wondering..." They looked horrified so he backed away, flying back to the roof to sit down.

"Fuck, why? Butcher, when did you...?" He made sure William was safe behind him. "When did it happen?"

William's eyes widened. He was alarmed to see his friends like this. He stepped out closer to the house and stood to Mike's right, but he stood further ahead than the guitarist. He looked up at Butcher, waiting for an answer.

"Not too long ago, a couple of years," he thought about it a few moments. "I don't really remember well since I thought if I ignored it it would just go away. I guess not huh?" He laughed humorlessly before going on. "You know don't you? What am I? Tell me!"

He swooped down once again, this time standing about five feet away from Mike and looking at him expectantly with his strange red-rimmed eyes.

"Avian," Mike answered. "Basically, you've got wings and you feed on blood. That's," he turned to William and grasped his arm to bring him closer, "pretty much it?" He doesn't know. It might not be too late. "You're not like the other Avians. If I were you I'd avoid them."

William let out a small hiss as he was dragged back towards Mike. It was Butcher. He should still be able to trust him, he hoped. He looked back at Mike and gave the man a worried look. They needed to keep Butcher away from the other Avians.

"There are others?" Butcher's heart fluttered a little. He wasn't alone. He hadn't imagined the figures flying in the dark on that night when his life changed.

"I... I know about the blood," he stepped back, hoping Mike couldn't see his blood-stained hands or clothing. He hoped it wasn't still dripping from his mouth. He didn't want to be this way.

Mike walked closer to him. These are not the eyes of a killer. He decided the best thing was to be blunt and expose the facts. "The Avians and vampires are at war with humans," he explained. "Most of them, at least. I'm not against species, I'm against individuals." Well, looks like William influenced me a bit too much. "Right now it's a pretty critical time to show up. There's a war in the making."

"A war?" Butcher's eyes widened and he stepped back again to keep the distance between himself and Mike. "Right here? ... in Chicago?"

He thought a few moments, "Do you know if Sisky's here in Illinois or not?"

"Especially in Chicago. If I'm not mistaken, only in Chicago. Sisky might still be here, I don't know." He used to boy as an argument. "You wouldn't want him to get hurt, do you?"

"Of course I wouldn't," Butcher eyed Mike suspiciously. "What are you trying to say?" He ignored all the talk of war when it sounded like there was a threat on Siska's life. He didn't care about all that other stuff much. He only wanted Adam safe.

"Adam is not like you. Once your people take over, they won't have pity for humans. If you're on our side, we can fight them, Avians and vampires alike. We can prevent Adam from being harmed." He offered Butcher his hand. "Will you...be part of the resistance?"

"You're not going to kill me are you?" Butcher asked flatly but he reached out to shake Mike's hand. "I'll do it for Adam. If something happens to him..."

"Nothing's going to happen to him. You have my word." Again, Mike noted similarities - Butcher, just like him, cared for someone he should have been in conflict with. "And nothing's going to happen to you." He brought William closer. "He's not human either."

"He's not?" Butcher moved closer and looked at William closely and actually touched him.

Mike didn't fail to notice the man's blood-stained fingers. Before William could react, he grasped Butcher's hand and moved it away. "He's a vampire."

William craned his neck and stuck out his fangs to show Butcher. He carefully ran his tongue over them for an added effect before smiling and encasing them again.

Butcher stared at William, unmoved, and smiled so his own fangs showed. "I wonder what secrets the other guys are hiding." He hoped Sisky was just a normal ~~adorable~~ human.

William looked over at Mike. "I'm sorry." Then he looked over and saw Butcher's fangs and smiled again. "As far as I know, they should still be normal. At least I hope so," William spoke as he kept an eye on Mike to make sure the guitarist was okay.
