"You're not anyone's whore anymore," he whispered softly, trying to soothe him. "You're free to do whatever you want. Just be careful." He looked away. "I'm sorry for what I said earlier at the club. I can't say I didn't mean it, but I...well, it's different for you. Okay?"

William nodded. "Okay," he whispered. He didn't know what it was about Mike, but the guitarist always knew how to make William feel safer. William kept looking down at the ground. "Umm, Mike, there's one more thing I should tell you," he began.

"Yeah?" It's a good sign. He stopped hiding things. He's really on my side. Mike tried to convinced himself that despite being a vampire, William wasn't so bad.

"Umm, well... There is one reason why I might bring more danger to you than there already is," he began. "In our clan, every leader has a mate; another vampire that the leader owns to do with as he pleases. The mate is never to leave our leader unless he his instructed to do so. In this current day and age, I'm the leader's mate...," William closed his eyes tight. He never meant to bring this much more stress into Mike's life.

Mike was shocked, to say the least. They'll track him and hunt us. He held William closer. "Your leader will have to find another mate, then."

"Easier said than done. Most leaders only get one mate. The mate is bound to the leaer for it's lifespan," William said calmly. "They're most likely tracking me down; watching every breath I take," he mumbled.

"Does that mean you'd rather go back to him?" Mike stared at him in disbelief. "William, you're - you're my friend. Not just a vampire or a part of the resistance. We are, or were, bandmates. All these years. That means something to me. If he wants you back he'll have to fight me first, whoever he is."

"N-no! I don't want to go back to that. I can't. There are too many things I have had to put up with that clan. I can't go back. I'm not going back to that. I've been wanting to find the protector of the city for so long. I've been wanting to get away from that for so long. Everything is easier now that I've found out that you were who I was trying to find the whole time. It's easier for me to work for you because we've been friends for all these years," William said with wide open eyes. His glance averted from Mike, to the floor, and then back to Mike. He bit his lip, hoping that Mike would understand.

"You're not working for me. We're working together, Bill." Mike hugged him tightly. He wasn't sure why, but it felt nice. It felt nice to know he wasn't alone anymore.

William gave a weak smile as he stared up at Mike. He felt safer here. His clan had never cared to hold him or make him feel safe before. Mike always had. It was obvious to William what he was going to do. He was going to work with Mike. He had always trusted Mike with almost anything. Now he had to trust Mike with everything. "Thanks," William said quietly.

Butcher came to a halt in the air and looked down at the house under him. He was pretty sure this was where Mike lived but everything looked different form the air. He came down slowly to make sure and landed lightly on the roof, hoping nobody heard him inside.

Mike moved away from William and lifted his head to look at the ceiling. "Did you hear...?" It's too early. It can't be them already. They can't...

William bolted upright and stood up on shaky legs. He had heard the noise too. "There's something on the roof," he whispered. "It sounds too heavy to be a vampire. It must be an Avian," he hissed.

Butcher paced a bit on the roof, knowing that if whoever was inside hadn't heard him already they'd be able to hear him now. This was a bad idea. What was he thinking? This might not even be Mike's house, and even if it was he was sure Mike wouldn't appreciate seeing what he really was. He couldn't put his wings back in now with all the drafts up here. He was afraid he'd lose his balance.

"If you do, I'm going with you," William said as he heard the footsteps continuing. "I'm not letting you go alone."

Butcher stopped suddenly and put an ear to the roof to listen. Pacing was an even worse idea than landing here in the first place. He prepared himself to fly away at a moment's notice.

Mike knew it was no use fighting over this, so he simply nodded and took William's hand. They left the room and he opened the front door, gun in hand, prepared for the worst.

William walked along with Mike, grasping the guitarist's hand as they wandered through the pitck black night. It was hard to see much because there was a slight fog around, but William kept his eyes wide open.

Butcher kept himself pressed as close to the roof as he could and still be ready to fight or flee. It would be harder for anyone to see him that way and harder to hit him hopefully. I should have gone to Sisky's house, he thought to himself with a sigh.

"Who's there?" Mike asked, loud enough for anyone to hear. "Answer!" He turned to William, and let go of his hand. "Get behind me. Please."

William did as he was told without any arguing. He walked behind Mike, still looking around and keeping his eyes open for anything moving. "Mike, look up at the roof," he whispered quietly and pointed to the shadow of a figure.

Butcher looked down in the direction of the voices. It was Mike and William. He felt relieved that he'd picked the right house but scared that they knew it was him.

He stretched his wings nervously, wondering what he could do to get out of this.

Mike quickly aimed at the dark silhouette, his gun held with two hands. "Say your name loud and clear and I won't shoot."

William stood behind Mike, staring up at the creature as it unfurled it's wings. Please don't make him shoot. Just give us your name.
