William suddenly started trembling again. He could hear someone's voice. He couldn't make out who it was at first, but as the message came across, William knew exactly who it was. He started trembling and grabbed onto Mike's arm. "M-Mike.... He's n-near here," William said while staring into Mike's eyes with a scared look on his face. The voice kept echoing through his head. He couldn't make it stop.

"Who's near? Your...your clan leader? Can we fight him?" He gestured to Butcher, telling him to go inside the house. "Can we fight him, the three of us? Where is he?" If he could scare William like that, he was definitely powerful.

William kept shaking. "N-no! We can't fight him. We'd lose. We can't... I can't.. I can't face him anymore. N-not after the other night." William kept shaking. He couldn't do this. Not now. Not after the other night. The voice was still running through his head. Ryland was insistent with his mutterings to William. He couldn't take it anymore. Falling to his knees, William brought his hands up to his ears and covered them, trying to stop the voice, but failed.

Mike sat next to William, and placed both of his hands on his, gently removing them. "What happened the other night?"

"I...He..," William stuttered and kept shaking. "H-he raped m-me," William choked out as he held back tears.

Mike let his hands go, and took William in his arms for a few seconds, long enough for his friend to know that he truly cared. "I won't let him get near you ever again." He placed his arms around the boy's waist and lifted him in a standing position. "Go inside with Butcher."

William stood up on his shaky legs and did what he was told. "Y-you're coming in too, r-right?" he asked as he kept shaking. The voice was still repeating in his head.

Mike frowned. "I'll have to face him one day. Now or later doesn't matter." He's going to pay for what he did. "I want you to stay with Butcher in the living room."

"But Mike! You said we were working together. I can't just leave you out here alone. You don't know what all he can do...," William pleaded.

"I warned you. I said you'd have orders to follow. Now I order you to go back inside." Mike's tone was cold, strict. He didn't want William to question his authority. The boy didn't have half his strenght; he couldn't risk him getting hurt.

"You don't know what all he can do! You don't know what to expect! You could get killed, and then what would the rest of us be left to do without you protecting the city?!" William was getting frustrated. He didn't want to lose Mike.

"William. Listen." Mike stared straight in his eyes. "He cannot kill me. He can't. Okay?" He can hurt me all he want, but in the end I'll win. I can't lose against a vampire. "Butcher, take him inside."

Butcher shrugged and started towards the door. "You don't have to tell me twice."

"Hey - look after Bill." He looked at William. "I'm going to be fine. Relax."

"I'll take good care of him," Butcher pulled the struggling William inside thinking it appropriate to add, "And I won't let him back out so do what you've got to do." He shut the door firmly behind them.

Mike nodded, looking ahead, and took his gun out. I'm ready.

A female vampire approached first wearing an expensive looking red dress that brought out the red highlights in her black hair. She looked like she was trying to hard to be a stereotypical vampire but the flash in her ice blue eyes showed that she made up for her foolishness in enthusiasm.

"Please try to stick close to me," a familar voice called after her. "What do they teach you younglings these days?" He sounded bored like he really couldn't believe that he was allowing the honor of guarding him to such a young vampire, however powerful she may be.

It can't be him. It can't possibly be him. Mike refused to believe what he had heard and waited for the vampire to show himself. In the meantime, he watched the woman move slolwy and gracefully toward him.

Ryland walked just close enough for Mike to see who he was and no further. "I know I'm in your territory," he grinned. "I'm only here to ask you politely to return my mate and... for fuck's sake stop sneering at him, woman!"

Ryland lept out and grabbed the young vampire by the back of her neck and dragged her back to the spot he had been standing at before, tossing her to the ground to whimper her apologies.

Mike felt bad for the woman - not out of compassion for the creature, but by hate for Ryland. He copied his grin for the sole purpose of infuriating him. "What if I choose not to?"

"Either I take him by force and kill him now, or I kill him later. Your choice," Ryland dropped his smile. "Really Carden, this isn't worth fighting over. Hand over my mate."

The vampire woman pulled herself to her feet and looked at Mike as if he were the most disgusting creature in the known universe.

Mike raised his gun, aiming for the girl's forehead. "Unless you want a disfigured sidekick, you should back off. William won't be coming back."

Ryland ignored the girl's fearful eyes and sighed. "I thought it would be that way. Looks like I need a new mate."

He nodded to the girl and she whistled. Another vampire, a man wearing casual clothes and looking comfortable enough with himself not to try and look like the villian in a horror film, appeared near them. "Yes, my lord?"

"Need a new mate," Ryland said loudly with an eye on Mike. There was a reason he was conducting this meeting here instead of back home. "You know who I had my eye on. Find him."

Mike aimed for the vampire that was leaving and shot the back of his head without hesitation, in a desperate attempt to slow him down. "I don't think you've mentionned your new pray yet, Blackinton. Care to introduce him?"

"Not very nice, Carden." Ryland put his charming smile back on and turned to walk away.

"You tell him," he nodded at the woman and she started shaking slightly like she was about to be painfully sacrificed.
