Nils squeaked, hugging Chase tight. Josie woke up and looked around balefully.

Butcher raised his eyebrows slightly in question.

Chase smiled the same gummy smile up at Nils. Reve snuggled into Josie, giggling in her sleep.

Mikey didn't respond, slowly moving a hand up to touch his hair.

Nils pointed at Chase's mouth. "Burdee ook!"

Butcher's eyes followed Mikey's hand.

Adelaide woke up and rubbed her eyes with both hands. Reve giggled herself awake and poked Josie to make sure she was awake too.

Tears gathered in Mikey's eyes as he touched the spiky, newly cut hair.

Josie made an outraged noise and glowered at Reve. Nils laughed as he realised everything was waking up.

Butcher kissed Mikey's forehead, taking the other man's hand in his own.

Reve smiled back at Josie innocently. Chester grunted and tried to cover his ears to block out the sounds.

Zeke grumbled sleepily. "Ba?" He rubbed his eyes.

We need to Ryland-proof Mandible House. Butcher would miss running his fingers through Mikey's hair as it was but, "I love you no matter what."

Chester tried to wedge his face between Zeke and the bed in an attempt to sleep longer.

Chester stopped trying to hide and opened his eyes to look at Zeke. Reve's smile widened and she threw her arms around Josie.

"You're still very handsome," Butcher ran his fingers through what was left of Mikey's hair. "It will grow back eventually."

"Yeah," Butcher nuzzled into him then stiffened. "We would know if he did anything to the other children right?" He didn't remember hearing any other cries besides Nils'.

Mikey's eyes widened. "If he's touched them, I'll kill him." He snarled.
