Mikey closed his eyes as fresh tears stained his cheeks.

Butcher rocked Nils gently, trying to get the little boy to stop crying.

Mikey sank to the floor, sobbing gently. He covered his head with his arms.

Nils looked up at Butcher. "N-ii-ss no ike bad burdee."

Butcher went back to listening at the door. "Mikey?" He asked quietly.

Butcher listened for any signs of movement, eyes intently trained on the door.

Butcher reached out and tried the door handle, "It's locked, Nilsy." He hitched the little boy up in his arms a little.

Mikey shifted and moved to lean against the wall, still hiding his head.

"Leave me alone." Mikey whispered into his hands, shaking. His now short hair fell into his face.

Butcher fell silent for a whole minute, "Please come out, Mikey. What's wrong?"

"Papa's kind of scrawny," Butcher smiled sheepishly. "But I guess I could try," he put Nils down out of the way and tested his wings since he would need an extra boost any way he could get it.
