"Where does it hurt, Mikey?" Butcher paused for a moment and turned to the side to check the baby but he was dozing off.

Mikey silently placed his hand over Butcher's. There. It hurts right there.

Mikey blanched as Butcher's hand touched his own. He let out another hiss of pain.

"I don't think it will ever go away completely," Butcher said in a defeated voice. We can't let him win.

Mikey shook his head and looked down, tracing the word with unsteady fingers.

"You're not his. He didn't put his name so it doesn't mean anything. He just wanted to hurt you," and he did. I'll never forgive him.

Mikey shuddered, remembering Ryland's hands travelling across his naked body, him powerless to fight back. I'd give anything to forget that.

I never got hurt this badly. Butcher wanted to hold Mikey and tell him everything would be okay but he knew it wouldn't be. He still hadn't gotten over his fear of alleyways and the last encounter in one had cemented that fear.

Mikey chewed on his thumb thoughtfully, anything to bridge the gap between the two of them. Blackinton's ruined everything.

I can't even touch you without feeling guilty. Butcher turned his eyes away from the letters on Mikey's chest and looked to the baby. "He looks like you," he said quietly.

Mikey looked away, his eyes bitter. He pulled the blanket around him and walked over to the armoire to get dressed.

"Where are you going?" Butcher shifted to watch Mikey, looking away when he realized the other avian might not want to be watched.

Mikey shrugged, pulling out a white shirt and pair of black trousers. He'd missed wearing clothes.

Mikey nodded, dropping the blanket and pulling his boxers and trousers on. He buttoned up his shirt.

"But Mikey..." Butcher trailed off lamely. He can do what he wants. Don't push him. But Ryland is still out there.

Mikey raised his eyebrows, looking at himself in the mirror as he tucked in his shirt.

"Ryland is still out there. It's not safe for you to go alone." Butcher resisted the urge to pull Mikey back onto the bed and hold him.

Mikey curled his lip. "Right." He said in a quiet voice. "Shame how no one warned me before he took me."

Mikey grunted and ran a brush through his tangled hair.

Give him his space. Let him go. Butcher sat back on the bed and lifted Mikey's son, cradling the boy in his arms.
