Mikey's body lay at the top of the stairs, hidden by his hair. His head was bent at an unnatural angle, his wings crumpled beneath him. A hand was splayed protectively across his stomach, though what good that could do now was debatable. Silence reigned through Mandible House.

"Mikey, please wake up..." Nick sobbed, kneeling by his former lover. He didn't dare touch him. "Mikey, please..."

The van parked right in front of the Mandible House. Stuck between Tom and his pregnant boyfriend, Mike could get out of the car immediately. "Okay everyone. Out."

Sisky ignored Mike and smiled up at Matt since she couldn't climb over everyone to get out.

Matt shoved the newcomer out of the van and walked out. He stared up at Mandible House, brow furrowed. It's too quiet.

Tom scrambled out the van, frowning. He pushed his hair out his eyes.

Michael stumbled a little in surprise and made sure to get out of Matt's way.

Butcher pushed out the van and ran up to the door, throwing it open and continuing up the stairs.

The draught from the open door moved a strand of Mikey's hair as he lay there. It was the only thing that moved.

William walked out of the car, a solemn look in his eyes. He's not here anymore...

Mike ran after Butcher, unable to wait for William. He wanted to find out. He had to. "Russell!" he called out as soon as he had entered the building. Something was wrong.

Sisky clung to Matt, not sure if she wanted to know what was waiting inside.

Matt frowned. He lifted Sisky into his arms and ran after Mike and Butcher.

"That doesn't sound good..." Even though he wanted to run after them, Tom didn't. He waited by William to help the pregnant man.

Michael hung back near the van, deciding not to go inside.

Butcher wordlessly screamed his pain at seeing Mikey sprawled out on the floor. He put Nils down beside him and gently took the other Avian into his arms.

Mikey's head lolled sickeningly against Butcher. He made no sound. Nils whimpered.

William heard the silence and bit his lip, closing his eyes for a moment. "He's not here anymore," he barely whispered.

"No," Mike whispered, hearing Butcher before actually seeing Mikey. He hurried up the stairs and stood still on the last step. "No, he's not...he can't..." He refused to believe it. His eyes were wide with horror.

Sisky shuddered when she heard her friend scream from inside.

Matt grabbed Sisky and ran inside. In his heart, he knew what was happening. The baby...

"No..." Tom paled. He followed. "No, Mikey... no." He shook his head frantically.

Michael rubbed his face with both of his hands.

"Mikey," Butcher whispered. He supported his lover's head and put his hand on Mikey's neck.

Mikey's head snapped back into position. His eyes were closed. He wasn't breathing, Ryland's finger marks obvious on his pale skin.
