"It's my fault for leaving you," Butcher squeezed his eyes shut for a moment and decided to steal a blanket to wrap Mikey in. He nudged open drawers with his foot until he found what he was looking for.

"I doubted you..." Mikey whispered, his eyes squeezed shut. "I didn't think you'd come. I let him do that to me, and I doubted you..."

"I should have been here sooner," Butcher put Mikey down and wrapped the blanked around him carefully before picking him back up.

Mikey stared at him with painful russet eyes. "I guess avians can have abortions then." He whispered as he was carried to the window.

Butcher kissed Mikey on the forhead, unable to trust his voice to say anything more. William miscarried Ryland's children because his body rejected them. You don't even know if the egg would have hatched right or what would have come out of it. I don't trust Ryland. He lifted out of the window carefully

Butcher slowed when they arrived at a clump of trees away from the Meagan. "What's wrong?" It's what he did to you isn't it? I wish I could have taken your place so you wouldn't have had to feel pain like that.

Butcher looked to make sure the blanket wrapped around Mikey was secure before he started flying in the direction of Mandible House again.

Mikey watched the ground soar by, pain filling his body and hindering his every move.

Butcher tried to make the trip as smooth and direct as possible so he could get Mikey home and fix his sores.
