"You should rest. I'm sure you'll be out of here in no time," Michael smiled slightly although he was sure of no such thing.

Michael looked at Tom for a few moments and flicked his eyes over to the small window in the room. I wonder if he's going to let them keep him here.

Tom's thin body trembled slightly, his hair flickering. "I can't control it..." He whispered.

Michael's eyes widened a little, sure he wouldn't be able to explain why Tom's hair changed. "Maybe I can ask for something to put over your head."

"O-o..." Tom's eyes slowly drooped closed. His blonde head lolled against the pillow.

The heart moniter at the boy's bedside beeped.

Michael sat down in a chair beside Tom's bed, wondering if anyone was going to give him some news. He stared at the medical equipment in the room warily.

A doctor rushed past Michael. "He's gone into cardiac arrest! Hurry!"

Michael's eyes widened and he moved out of the way as some of the people from earlier rushed back to the room, shoving their beeper back in their pockets.

Tom's body jerked as the electronic pulse was sent through him. "BP forty over eighty."

Michael backed up a little further and looked at a nurse who was holding a clipboard and taking some notes. He attempted to read what she had.

The boy's body jerked again, before the frantic beeping stopped. A doctor placed an oxygen mask over his face.

"Sir, you may wish to move to the waiting room," The nurse offered, tilting her clipboard away. Michael frowned.

Tom's eyes fluttered open again. He stared at Michael in alarm.

"I'm right here," Michael tried to move a little closer while still being out of the way of the people checking his IV and the monitors hooked up to him.

Tom watched the doctors fussing around him. One of them removed his oxygen mask and opened his mouth.

Michael decided to try to figure out what all the doctors were doing and frowned. He didn't think so many people were necessary.

The doctor frowned. "His teeth are rotting. Add that to the equation." Tom watched silently.

"How is the lining of his esophagus? That would make it clearer," another consulting doctor looked over at Tom.

Michael fidgeted nervously.
