Tom stiffened in horror. His eyes were full of panic.

"Staying where I can see you? How kind. This way I won't waste any time," Ryland smirked.

Michael grabbed Tom's hand and pulled him into the first alley he could see. He frowned at the wall they met at the end and pushed Tom against it. "Don't move no matter what."

"Perfect," Ryland chuckled to himself as he entered the alley.

Michael stood with his feet planted firmly apart. "Ryland, we were friends once so I'll give you one chance to leave."

Tom blinked at the change in Michael, shaking violently.

Ryland paused a moment then shrugged and continued walking towards Tom.

Michael stepped forward to meet the vampire and his fist connected to the side of Ryland's head. "No one ever takes me seriously..." He said absently.

Tom shrank into himself slightly. If I'd annoyed him... He realised, noticing the Australian's muscles for the first time.

Taken off guard, Ryland stumbled a little, dropping the rest of the way intentionally to try and trick Michael as he kicked out a leg to trip the Australian protector.

Michael's legs were knocked out from under him but he rolled into a position where he woudn't be so vulnerable. He has a broken arm.

Tom squeaked. He would have tried to help, but knew he was next to useless.

"It's useless," Ryland chuckled as he moved to pin Michael down. "You're only human."

"I'm the protector from Australia," Michael smiled and grabbed Ryland's broken arm.

Ryland's face became unreadable as he struggled to free his broken arm before the protector could hit it against the ground or something worse. He used his cast to hit the human and smiled when Michael's grip loosened. "Not a very good one. Australia is tame." He stood and turned towards Tom.

Michael stayed still for a moment as he tried to figure out if he was bleeding or not.

Michael sat up quickly and looked for anything useful. His eyes fell on a metal trash can, a cardboard box, and an old rusty shovel. From the paint on the handle he assumed it was someone's strange idea of decoration but he grabbed it anyways and snuck up behind Ryland.

With a grunt, Michael swung as hard as he could and the shovel connected with Ryland's head, knocking the vampire unconscious. "Tom?"
