William closed the door behind himself, not sure of what to do. Should I let them sleep here while I go clean the mess up? As he thought, his knees began to buckle from exhaustion, and he had to force himself over to the bed before he fell and harmed his children. He carefully moved to the side of the bed, facing inward. It's best just to let them sleep now... He made sure to leave room for Mike on the opposite side, so that he could be next to the children as well. He carefully placed his children down on the bed, next to his chest. He looked down at their small figures and felt guilty. He moved the Avian baby so it would be comfortable with its wing.

William smiled softly as his children finally settled down, snuggling into his chest as they started to drift off into sleep. William slowly closed his eyes, an arm around his children protectively as they slept.

When Mike got home, he purposedly ignored the puddle of blood on the floor, as if he was blind to it. Not seeing William anywhere, he climbed up the stairs to the second floor. His lover and children on the bed were almost enough to make him feel some kind of emotion again, yet not quite. He laid on the side of the bed, like William had intended, and watched the babies. He knew that newborns had a tendency to sleep on their stomach, which was often a causing of choking and death. He had to be extremely careful.

William's hand absentmindedly stroked the baby girl's back as he soon fell asleep, feeling that Mike was finally there. The little girl make a contented noise as his fingers gently rubbed over his tiny feathers.

Mike felt like he had forgotten how to smile. His head and heart were empty, like the day he had killed his girlfriend, and then when it had been Angel and Nick's turn. He looked at every baby and wondered how such innocent little creatures could be his own children.

William could sense Mike staring at their children, and his eyes fluttered open. He cast a soft gaze towards the guitarist, not sure of what to say. He looked down at noticed that the Avian boy had begun to chew on his shirt quietly in his sleep.

Mike didn't notice William looking at him. For a moment, he guessed it was how Matt must have felt, everyday - being prone to anger and almost not feeling any emotion at all. He gently petted the Avian boy's head.

William smiled slightly at the Avian child automatically started snuggling into his father's hand. All three children finally looked comfortable and safe.

Mike smiled very slightly. His eyes were glistened as if he wanted to cry but couldn't allow himself to. "Whatever your first name will be, you're going to be a little Beckett," he whispered. "Not a Carden."

William felt a little saddened by Mike's comment. He kept silent though, making sure that all of his children were content as they slept. He didn't feel like he could sleep because he wanted to make sure that they were safe. He watched as the Avian baby let go of his shirt, its small eyes fluttering open half way. It tried desperately to reach for Mike's hand.

Mike slowly lowered his hand, letting the child wrap his tiny fingers around his thumb. He made a few sounds, mouth half-open and eyes sleepy.

William watched as the little baby clung to the guitarist's finger. He smiled softly. The little baby, though extremely small in size, was able to hold on to the man's thumb with his minature hands. It amazed William just how small they each were.

Mike kissed the boy's little hand. The child lifted his arm, other hand open in an attempt to touch Mike's nose, but gave up almost instantly. It looked as if he was trying to smile but didn't know how to. "Your mommy needs to hold my hand like that more often," he whispered.

William looked over at Mike, smiling softly. "I love you," he whispered, the sincerity of his words showing in his smile and in his eyes. He watched the tiny baby interact with its father.

Mike raised his head to look at his lover, noticing he was awake for the first time. He wanted to tell him how much he loved him, how much he loved his family, but couldn't do it. "Sorry for the mess downstairs."

"Try to forget about it," William whispered softly. He heard his other son whimper in his sleep, and pulled him closer, gently kissing the boy's forehead.

Mike watched the man act with so much care that it was impossible not to feel overwhleming tenderness for him. "...I love you," he whispered in one short breath, sad he didn't know a better term to express his feelings.

William smiled back at Mike. "I love you too," he whispered again, holding both his son and his daughter close as they slept. He watched as his other son continued to hold onto Mike's thumb.

Mike looked down at his son. "He's a strong little guy, but I get the feeling he'll always be calm and gentle..." He blew the baby a kiss, causing his son to giggle sleepily. "Loving and caring like his mom. This one won't be a troublemaker."

William smiled at Mike and his son. "But he looks beautiful like his father," he whispered, watching as the baby moved its arm to reach up to touch its father's face again. It gave up yet again, too weak to make it all the way. "He can't even lift his head and he's already trying to reach you," William grinned.

Mike blushed slightly at the compliment. "I've got a funny face, that's all." Unconsciously, he grinned. He poked the baby's nose. "Right, daddy has a funny face?" He lowered his head even more so the baby could reach him.

The baby tried once more to reach out to its father, a concentrated look on its face. It looked confused and frustrated when he couldn't reach at first, but when he touched his father's nose, it tried to smile again, not really sure how to. William grinned at the sight. "I think he loves you," he whispered.

Mike smiled, his child trying to mimic the expression. "He better, he's stuck with us until he's at least eighteen. They're all going to grow up with us..."

"And we get to take care of them every step of the way," William whispered, smiling fondly as his son raised both of its tiny arms and stretched, both hands touching Mike's nose. His hands were so small that they couldn't even cover his whole nose yet.

Mike laughed. "Yeah, we do." He loved all the attention his child was giving him, wondering if Matt had ever been that way with William.
