"Just stay away from anyone with a pair of goddamn wings!" Mikey snarled. Nils cooed quietly, rolling off the bed. He giggled and began to crawl towards the window.

Nils stopped. He stared up at Ryland in confusion. "Burdee?" Mikey froze. He staggered upright.

"Vampire," Ryland told Nils, ignoring Mikey and leaning down to pat the boy's head gently.

Nils looked up, blinking innocently. "Burdee." Mikey growled low in his throat.

Ryland grinned, reaching out to scoop the boy up. "I think I'll take him off your hands."

Mikey bared his teeth threateningly. He grabbed Nils and darted out the room, running as fast as he could.

Mikey tripped. He whimpered, his hair falling around him. He couldn't get back up.

Ryland held Nils balanced on his hip with one arm. "If I cut you open now, will the children survive?"

Ryland took his sling off and set it on the ground, putting Nils on top. "Stay there." He moved towards Mikey. "How about we find out."
