Butcher chuckled and went back to finishing the bottle he was holding.

"Nils." Mikey said in a stern voice. Gently, he wrestled Chase out of his son's arms, ignoring the pout on his face. "Papa, this is Chase."

"Hello Chase," Butcher looked at the new arrival and frowned slightly. "What happened to his head?"

Chase looked at Butcher with wide eyes.

"He fell down the stairs." Mikey wouldn't meet Butcher's eyes.

"But it's all healed up," Butcher touched the scar in confusion.

Chase tried to look back at Nils, wondering where his friend was.

"Nick." Mikey said shortly. He turned around to look at his other children to hide the tears in his eyes.

Butcher looked up at Mikey and hugged Chase closer, closing his eyes.

Adelaide looked at her daddy with concern and raised her arms.

Silently, Mikey picked up Adelaide, hugging her close. He still wouldn't look at Butcher.

Chase looked back at Butcher in confusion and Adelaide nuzzled into Mikey.

Mikey sat down on the floor by the bed his children were on, still holding Adelaide quietly.

Butcher looked up, deciding to give Mikey his time to grieve. Losing someone twice has to be hard.

Mikey kissed the side of Adelaide's face, laughing despite himself when Nils tumbled headfirst into his lap with a surprised squeak.

Butcher touched the skin that joined Chase's leg making the boy twitch like when Mikey had done the same thing.

Adelaide smiled, giggling softly.

Mikey straightened Nils with a soft smile, realising he couldn't grieve when his former lover's action were taken into account. He looked around again. "Where's your knife?"

"Um," Butcher looked around. "Somewhere over there," He waved his hand vaguely in the direction he thought it would be in. Chase yawned at him.

"Ok." Mikey put the babies back on the bed. He searched through Butcher's bag.

Butcher rubbed Chase's back, trying to keep him relaxed as he watched.

Mikey pulled out the knife. "Do you want to do it, or shall I?"

Butcher thought a moment and held Chase, "You should do it."

"Ok." Mikey closed his eyes, before looking over at Nils' scared face. He steadied his breathing before pressing the knife to the join.

Chase's eyes opened wide and his mouth dropped open in confusion. "It's okay," Butcher said soothingly.

Face calm, Mikey gently dragged the knife further up the join, cutting cleanly.

Chase's face scrunched up but he stayed still. "See it's okay, Chase," Butcher petted his hair.

Mikey held his breath as the knife travelled further. Suddenly he stopped. "Finished!"
