Found the cure

Brad woke up in a little valley between two hills and rubbed his head. "What?" He looked around and his eyes widened. How did I get here? He knew he hadn't eaten anything in a long time but he didn't feel weak.

He smiled and plopped back down on his back, "I think I just found the cure for diabetes."

"There he is," Ryland smiled down at the unconscious vampire. "Take him and give him his own room at the Meagan. He's aged to be my new mate." The light glinted on the man's wedding ring. "And he already has a human mate. Find out who she is and kill her along with any family he has."

Ryland kept a sneering face on until his underlings left. Then he went behind a hill and puked some more. Damn.

Ryland fell to his knees and put his hands on his ears. "Fuck. What is this? What are you doing, William? I don't want to know how fucking happy you are. Get out of my head." He leaned forward and dry heaved, nothing left to throw up but bile.

Ryland clutched his stomach and threw himself to the ground away from his own vomit. "God. What did that guy have? You probably set me up Carden." He groaned. "Now I'm giving you too much credit..."

Ryland sat up suddenly and pulled himself to his feet. He'd been wallowing in his pain too long. Time to go back to ignoring it.

Haylie wandered along the hills, seeing the man laying on the ground. Her stomach lurched at the sight of the vomit, but she still found her way over to him. "Are you okay?" She asked

Ryland jumped slightly at the sound of her voice, not expecting anyone to be around, "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you."

She knelt down beside him, brushing her hair out of her face in one quick motion. "You don't look okay"

"I'm just sick," Ryland hugged his knees. "I'll get over it."

She tilted her head to the side and stared at him. "What's wrong?"

"I ate something that didn't agree with me. Food poisoning," Ryland chuckled softly at his wording. He wasn't sure how she would take it if he said he'd actually eaten the blood of someone with a disease of some kind and his body was rejecting the blood.

She eyed him, sensing there was something more to his story. "You're a vampire, aren't you."

"Yes." He was somewhat relieved. "I am a vampire."

She smirked, letting him see her fangs. "So what's really wrong?"

He sighed in relief and let himself relax even more, "Bad blood. The human didn't look sick at all. I'm guessing something hereditary."

She nodded, frowning as her hair fell into her face once again. She brushed it back with a sigh. "Who did you bite?"

"A man on Carden's side. He looked pretty strong and in his thirties or forties I'd say." Ryland thought about it.

She looked at him confused. "What do you mean, side?"

"There's a war going on. There are three sides I guess. Mike Carden is the protector of the city and all the little humans in it. There are vampire clans such as mine and there's Mikey Russel and his Avians." He looked at her as if she was lucky for not knowing.

"I'm new here," She explained quickly. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Right now Mike is busy and we have free reign to do whatever we want," Ryland smirked. "Just so you know. At the moment we're waiting for what he's going to do. The war isn't official yet but just one spark could set it off."

"Busy with what?" She questioned

"He's getting married soon," Ryland laughed.

She looked at him. "Why is that funny?"

"It's to my mate," He sighed.
