Roxine glanced round, eyes locking on a group of girls at the entrance of an alleyway. "There they are."

Roxine headed towards them, eyes narrowed. Her gaze was locked on the group so firmly she hardly saw where she was headed.

Roxine's pace hurried. One girl spotted her and tried to run away - Roxine dashed across the road to try and catch her.

Gabriel followed, jerking to a hault as he spotted a speeding car. "Roxy!" He shouted.

Roxine whipped round, confused. She didn't have time to scream as the car slammed into her side.
She landed a good metre, skidding a halt with small cries of pain and surprise.

"Roxine!" Gabriel screamed, racing forwards, to take Roxine in his arms.

Roxine's breath was shallow, her eyelids fluttering slightly. A crowd swamped the pair.

Gabriel rocked her gently. "Please Roxine, wake up."

Roxine let out a low moan of pain. Carmen placed a hand on Gabriel's shoulder. "An ambulance is coming - you should let her be still."

Gabriel shook his head. "I need to know she's awake."

Carmen sighed. "Shaking her won't help. Wait for the ambulance."

Gabriel cradelled Roxine closer. "Please Roxy..."

The crowd parted to let the ambulance through. "Sir, are you coming with us?" asked a woman as two men took Roxine from Gabriel gently.

Carmen nodded and ran off. Roxine was lifted into the ambulance. The woman smiled at Gabriel and hurried him in as well. "I'm Sue. What happened?"

Gabriel stared at Roxine. "A..A car." he choked out.

Sue nodded. "Check her pulse." she told the other two. "What's her name? What's your name? How do you know her?" she asked Gabriel.

Gabriel blinked slowly. "Her name's Roxine MacBeth, my name's Gabriel Leonheart and she's my...Girlfriend."

Sue nodded again. "Okay. Can you tell me exactly what happened? Take your time, hon'."

Gabriel shook his head. "We were going to check on something, she ran out into the street and I saw the car and then..." He closed his eyes, angered he hadnt been able to help her.

Sue placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's not your fault. Do you have her parent's or guardian's phone number? How old is she?"

Gabriel shook his head. "Her best friend is on her way, she has no family that I know of."

Sue's eyebrows rose in surprise but she nodded. "Okay. Does she have any medical conditions that you know of?"
