Keep the things I left behind

"I think she wanted to know if one could stay," Butcher hugged himself. It was a little chilly outside, and he was topless.

"Thank you," Butcher ran a finger over Mikey's feathers. He liked their color.

"Aye aye Capitan," Butcher mock-saluted.

Butcher wandered around the room, trying to memorize his new home but sticking close to Mikey so as not to get lost or run into anyone by himself.

"Bed?" Butcher raised his eyebrows and laughed. "I pick food."

"I know." Butcher said in an imitation of a sultry whisper and laughed again. He followed, still laughing slightly.

"Anything's fine," Butcher smiled sweetly. It was one of those fake 'I'm not a troublemaker' kind of smiles.

"In that case I just want a sandwich." Butcher thought seriously. He'd been taking horrible care of himself lately and he probably shouldn't eat anything rich.

"Where are we going now?" Butcher followed with a little more spring in his step then he'd had before.

He let that sink in. He really wasn't going back to his old apartment. "It's a lot nicer than my old place," Butcher said to himself quietly with a smile. "What will I be doing? I want to help."

"You do?" Butcher followed. He wondered whether he would be actively fighting or just waiting to save and heal the injured in the future.

"Okay good. I hate waiting around." He smiled weakly. "Whose fingerprints?"
