"Right..." Mikey pressed some of it into a pressurised capsule. He turned his head to avoid looking at the needle and shot it into his muscled arm.

The younger avian winced as he pulled the needle out. He held out his arms for his son.

Butcher silently gave Nils back to Mikey.

Mikey undid his shirt swiftly. They both watched Nils gently pat the area he'd fed from before, testing it out. He breathed out a sigh of relief when the baby bit into him. "They can tell if it's right." He explained quietly.

"When you have a kid, there are like..." Mikey waved his free hand about. "Nutrients in your blood. So they can feed off them. And Nils can tell, which is why he hasn't tried to feed off you."

"Oh," Butcher didn't know what he would do if he had a child feeding off of him in the first place. "Right."

Mikey gave him a soft smile as his son tore the flesh. "Oi you, stop being such a messy eater and mind your manners." He tapped him fondly on the head.

Butcher had to watch Mikey's face instead of Nils feeding. It was still a little bizarre for him. "So everything's fine now?"

Mikey thought a moment. "Yeah." He said in a sombre tone of voice. But Angel had everything she needed and look what happened to her...

"Ryland won't get anywhere near him," Butcher said in a lower tone of voice. He perceived the vampire as the biggest threat to their safety at the moment.

Mikey gave him another smile. "Avians aren't gonna be helpless anymore." he said quietly. "This has just been a sanctuary so far. It's going to be a garrison."

Mikey shrugged. "Mother animals are more violent after they've had children. Nick used to tease me about it, but I was a lazy sod then and didn't do anything."

Butcher lifted his hand to cover his grin. Mikey's expression just made him want to smile more. "Please don't hurt me."

Butcher dropped his hand and adopted a shocked face, mouth slightly agape. He bit his lip for a few moments to avoid grinning and making a joke.
