Darren consentrated on keeping his face from reacting. He didn't often do this but every now and thn it was nessesary. "Chief, I will go out and catch the bastard, I promise you that. What I know is that he got away from me becuse he got help from a friend. I think he was an athlete of some sort," wrong but saying that he knew he was something supernatural was not a way to dig your self out of a hole with the chief, " he's gone under ground. I don't think he'll stay there long though. I have a good I dea where he'll go when he does resurface. Give me till the end of the week, you can give me as many small time ones as you like till then but otherwise get off my fucking back. I have the best arrest record of anyone that wasn't some shit arse who tried to slam people up for being gay or some other bullshit." The chief just looked at him.
"I know, that why I wanted to put you in for the murder squad. Your so damn good at this game you could have half the cases solved by this time next week." He glared at Darren, "Why is it you keep turning that down Burrows?"
"Sir,I have told you I can't work murders. For persnal reasons."
"And what are those? We know none of your families or even anyone you knows been murders. You've never been at a bad scene. So why are you so damn sure set aginst it. I've seen some of the blokes you braught in for resisting arrest you've got no problem with the gore." The Chief was leaning in close now. Darren couldn't remember anyone resisting arrest but then he never remembered past cases. He struggled enough to remember what he had for breakfast. He only got through meomry tests by touching the marking and remembering them marking it.
"You wan the truth sir?"
"Yes" he growled through gritted teeth.
"I won't go on the murder teams because I know what they'll put me to work on. catching the ones that go under ground and those are the organised ones. The cerial killers and the thought of touching one of them scares the living shit out of me." Darren pulled open the desk draw and took out a pair of glove, thin ones he'd had done specialy thin leather that covered his hole hand but was still pliable enough that if he looked after them they were just like a second skin. He slipped them on doing up the velcro to make sure they didn't slip off. "I'm going to see want I can find out." Hestood and pushed past the Chief headed for the door. the whole office was in silent awe of the fight that had just taken lace. No one quiet knew who had won. Not the Chief because Burrows had walked away, but not Burrows, he had admitted fear. You didn't do that. You just didn't.
