"Uh... that's all you have?" Michael's face fell a little as she nodded and told him he probably wouldn't find any better. "We'll take it then."

"I'll even charge you the price for a double. It'll be a discount," The woman said kindly. "You can't beat that."

The German teenager looked at her incredulously. She didn't seem to get it.

Michael stared at her blankly hoping that she would get the message but instead she printed out a receipt.

Tom looked up at Michael, eyebrows raised.

Michael looked back then sighed. "Is there any chance you could give us a different room if one opens up?" The recpetionist nodded and told him she'd call if something did befor handing over the keys.

Tom pushed his dreadlocks out his eyes and jammed his hands in his pocket. The bruise on his cheek caught the light.

"There's a place you can get ice near the elevators," The woman said dismissively, putting her courteous on-the-job smile on.

Tom pressed a finger to the mark and wandered off to find it.

Michael stuffed the card keys in his pocket and thanked the receptionist before folowing.

Michael raised his hand to wave at Tom, standing near the elevators. "We've got to go up to get to the room."

Tom nodded and followed the older man, hands in pockets.

Michael pushed the up button and waited for the doors to open. "I'm sorry about this. We can get a new room tomorrow."

Michael sighed in relief and punched the second floor button as soon as they were in.

Tom rubbed his eyes and settled against the wall of the elevator.

"Tired?" Michael smiled as the doors opened again.

"A little." Tom wrinkled his nose.

"You should rest before we do anything else," Michael led the way to their room and unlocked it.

Tom nodded, rubbing his forehead. He dumped his bag in the corner of the room and kicked off his shoes.

Michael smiled at him and sat down in one of the chairs near the small table provided for guests to bring meals back to eat on.
