Angel gasped, his lips soft against Michael's. Something began to change inside him.

Michael wondered if he had to put more into the kiss, hesitantly running his tongue over Angel's lips.

Tom pulled away slowly, his forehead still pressed against Michael's. "My name was Tom Listing." He began quietly. "I was ten years old."

Michael continued to hold Tom for support, eyes widening slightly.

"My family were Kaulitzes, but I didn't know. A Kaulitz is separated from their family when they turn thirteen." Tom was glad Michael was holding him, he didn't think he would be able to tell the story without it. "I was walking home from school with a friend when a van came up beside us. People jumped out... my friend was killed and I was dragged into the van."

"Tom..." Michael said softly and rubbed the boy's back.

Tears slowly tracked down Tom's face as he continued his story. "I found out soon enough they were vampires. For two months I was kept without sunlight in a small, cramped room." He tugged off his shirt, showing Michael the bites and scars on his body.

Michael gently cupped Tom's face in his hand looking horrified at the marks on the boy's body.

"I was beaten into submission." Tom choked out. "T-then one of the vampires... one of the vampires..." he shook his head, hiding his face in Michael's shoulder.

Michael stiffened slightly, holding Tom close. His anger at people like Ryland multiplied tenfold.

"Monsters..." Michael shook slightly.

"The night after that, when they came to give us food, I attacked them." Bill kept his mouth close to Michael's ear. "I ran as fast as I could... they cornered me in the kitchen." He chuckled quietly. "You know what happened then."

"Uh yeah, very resourceful," Michael winced slightly.

Bill pushed his hair behind his ear. "I was practically feral then. I'm more civilised now."

Michael held Bill close, still saddened by what had happened to the two of them. "Do you think the same thing is happening to Tom Conrad now, just without the soul part?"

Bill shrugged. "It's hard to say. They wanted answers from us; they didn't know the Kaulitzes were Protectors. We knew nothing. But we should have died, and we didn't."

"I'm glad you didn't," Michael smiled at Bill.

"I attacked Butch." Bill brought his story to a close. "Tom got chocolate. He was homeschooled. He never went back."

"A vampire I previously attacked got his revenge." Bill sighed. "Slammed us against concrete twice."

"You didn't uh attack him... with you know," Michael asked uncomfortably.

"You only use it on vampires right?" Michael never wanted to cross Bill.

Bill smiled a mischievous smile. "Depends on how crosses me; but I generally don't use it on humans."
