Matt loved Caitlyn; he knew he did. He didn't know why, only that she was cute and innocent and made him smile. But she wasn't his. The thought stuck in his head. He would never have children.

The vampire thought about all the parents he knew; Mikey, with Nils; Sisky, with Caitlyn; William, with the three children. They were related to him somehow, but he couldn't figure out how.

He'd never been treated like that. He'd never been cuddled, never had clothes bought for him. He'd never get it now. He sighed and finished off his drink.

He couldn't compare with Mike. The baby would never be his.
