"Hello?" Sisky tried, feeling disturbed by the high chattering that was issuing out of her mouth. The other squirrell looked at her strangely. "What?"

Matt's sharp ears could hear them talking, but he didn't know what they were saying.

"You're a human," the squirrell said. The language wasn't didn't translate into words exactly but Sisky understood it that way. "No, I'm not," she replied.

"You're no squirrell either," the animal retorted with something like a chuckle in its voice.

Matt smiled. The sun had come back out.

"Are you okay?" Sisky tried.

"Do I look okay?" The squirrell did the equivalent of a human raising eyebrows. "I can't move my leg, child."

"Why not?" Sisky tried not to show her embarrassment, but was sure it was obvious.

Matt tilted his head back with a soft smile.

"Because I got careless." The squirrell made the equivalent of a shrug. "It hurts."

"Do you think it's broken?" Sisky scampered closer to look and was nudged away by the more mature squirrell.

"I don't know. Are you going to help me or what, humansquirrell?"

"I'll help," Sisky changed back into a human shape, unable to hold the squirrell one for much longer. The animal stiffened in surprise and made the expression that meant that it was laughing at her again.

Matt heard the slight rustling that indicated a change and looked down.

It hurt itself and doesn't mind if we help it. Sisky realized she should have prodded for more details but she could ask more later.

Sisky opened her mouth slightly and touched her two front teeth thoughtfully.

Sisky blushed and let her hand drop. I've never been a squirrell before. It felt kind of weird.

Sisky made a squirrelly chattering noise, causing the squirrell on the ground to look up. Weird.

Matt burst out laughing, before stopping abruptly. He placed a hand to his mouth, eyes wide.

Sisky resisted the urge to hug him because she felt this was an important step, then wondered why she was thinking that way. Do you like it?
