Shifters can be avians, humans or vampires. They have the ability to change into an animal of some sort. During the day they can do this freely but when the sun sets they are stuck in whatever form they are in at the time and can not change till the morning. They can be identified by their hair which will have similar markings to the animal they can shift into.
Shifters can breed in either form but their children in the human, avian or vampire form have a fifty fifty chance of being shifters. In their animal forms they will always be shifters.
A shifter mother can shift during pregnancy but if a shifter’s mother is not a shifter themselves the child will not shift in the womb. Within an hour of birth a shifter will chose a form which it will maintain until adolescence. They are the source of many werewolf myths as a family of wolf shifters once had a habit of eating locals for fun. Very few Shifters are still left and those that are tend to keep low profiles as clothes do not shift with them, so it can be difficult to keep appointments and regular work. Many who do exist chose to remain in their animal form most of the time or do not have birth certificates, passports or documentation.
